12th Annual "Horse and Hound" Wine Festival

Enjoy wine from some of Virginia’s finest wineries while listening to good music and visiting art, craft and food vendors. Virginia’s most unique and family friendly wine festival features horse and dog events throughout the day including the Parade of Horses, lure course, muskrat racing, and Kiddie Korral. The festival takes place on the grounds of Johnson’s Orchards & Peaks of Otter Winery - 2122 Sheep Creek Rd, Bedford.

A cooking demo with Executive Chef Heather Cash is included.

Join NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador, Greg Redfern, for an engaging presentation to learn the latest about the missions sent to the Moon by NASA, China, and India - plus manned efforts. A jacket is recommended, and a flashlight is helpful. Free to all parkway visitors.

 - "The Peaks Under the Stars" - If the sky is clear after the presentation, our guests will move outdoors to the lawn area at the edge of the lake to see the night sky in all its glory while listening to sky lore and fascinating sky facts.

Remembering History: Hunter's Raid June 1864 at the Peaks of Otter

Learn about “life on the home front” during the Civil War for 1864 Appalachian Mountain families!

Visitors to the encampment will have the opportunity to listen to multiple points of view surrounding “Hunter’s Raid” including fictional families, accurate information regarding Confederate soldiers fighting a “delaying action”, and General David Hunter’s Union forces on their way to attack Lynchburg.

Shenandoah Valley Civil War era dancers will also be on site performing and enlisting visitors to join in the dancing! It's sure to be a day of fun for historians and families alike.
